When the movie version of the \u2014 let\u2019s not be kind about it \u2014 \u201cmommy porn\u201d book \u201c50 Shades of Grey\u201d came out, the press junket was an unmitigated disaster.<\/p>\n

The gossip site Defamer<\/em>\u00a0enjoyed it immensely, and so did I, in a post for CatholicVote<\/em> called \u201c50 Shades of Schadenfreude.\u201d<\/a> Here\u2019s a bit from Defamer<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s undertake a thought experiment. Imagine that\u2014rather than paper and ink\u2014each of those books were composed of: a look of unabashed contempt; a single embittered sigh; an explicit request that audiences not see the film adaptation of\u00a050 Shades of Grey<\/em>, vocalized by one of the movie\u2019s main stars.\u00a0Imagine one hundred million pained expressions, one hundred million eyes rolled, one hundred million uncomfortable pauses that peter out into one hundred million dead silences.<\/p>\n

You have imagined the\u00a0press tour for the upcoming film\u00a050 Shades of Grey\u2014<\/em>by now firmly established as among the most disastrous of the past decade, if not so far this century.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On Monday, June 29, the woman who typed the words that became \u201c50 Shades\u201d (don\u2019t make me call her a writer, I\u2019ve had a hard week) went on Twitter to do a Q&A.<\/p>\n

It was a beautiful, beautiful thing, and for once, the Twitterverse did itself proud.<\/p>\n

Oh, and by the way, the woman who typed the words that became \u201c50 Shades\u201d has seized control of the sequel, enlisting her husband, author Niall Leonard, to pen the script. I can only dream it matches the enormous critical acclaim heaped on both the book and the first movie.<\/p>\n

The only thing that would be better if if the woman typist typed the script herself (which, seized by delusions of adequacy, she wanted to do<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Yeah, I know lots of people \u2014 including some Catholics, Lord have mercy on their souls \u2014 loved the books and shelled out their hard-earned cash for the movies.<\/p>\n
