On Friday, Jan. 15, \u201cHell\u2019s Kitchen\u201d returns to the Fox schedule, but aside from a lot of hot tempers in the kitchen, this reality competition show is entirely demon-free (unless you count the occasional profane eruption from chef Gordon Ramsey).<\/p>\n

But, Old Scratch will be landing a place on the network\u2019s schedule on Monday, Jan. 25, with the premiere of the one-hour drama\u00a0\u201cLucifer.\u201d <\/a>Here\u2019s how the network describes it:<\/p>\n

The Devil has come to Los Angeles\u2026<\/p>\n

Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment\u2019s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, \u201cMerlin\u201d) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub.<\/p>\n

Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things \u2013 wine, women and song \u2013 when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? The very thought disturbs him \u2013 as well as his best friend and confidante, MAZIKEEN aka MAZE (Lesley-Ann Brandt, \u201cThe Librarians\u201d), a fierce demon in the form of a beautiful young woman.<\/p>\n

The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective CHLOE DECKER (Lauren German, \u201cChicago Fire\u201d), who initially is dismissive of Lucifer. But she becomes intrigued by his talent for drawing out people\u2019s secrets and his desire to dispense justice, doling out punishment to those who deserve it. As they work together to solve the pop star\u2019s murder, Lucifer is struck by Chloe\u2019s inherent goodness. Accustomed to dealing with the absolute worst of humanity, Lucifer is intrigued by Chloe\u2019s apparent purity and begins to wonder if there\u2019s hope for his own soul yet.<\/p>\n

At the same time, God\u2019s emissary, the angel AMENADIEL (DB Woodside, \u201cSuits,\u201d \u201c24\u201d), has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld\u2026can the Devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of Good, or will his original calling pull him back toward Evil?<\/p>\n

LUCIFER is produced by Warner Bros. Television, in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Aggressive Mediocrity. The series is based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment\u2019s Vertigo imprint. Tom Kapinos (\u201cCalifornication\u201d) wrote and executive-produced the pilot. The series is executive-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson. Len Wiseman serves as director and executive producer. Kapinos will serve as executive consultant on the series.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Intriguing. Of course, in any TV show, execution is everything, so we\u2019ll have to see whether this comic-book version of Lucifer can actually be redeemed. Since this is a series and not a movie, I wouldn\u2019t hold my breath for any quick transformations.<\/p>\n

But hey, as I always say, Hollywood dumps regularly on believers, but it just can\u2019t stop talking about God.<\/p>\n
