<\/a><\/p>\nWhile TV writer\/producer Shonda Rhimes is called \u201cbrave\u201d <\/a>for having her wealthy, privileged lead character in the ABC drama \u201cScandal\u201d have an abortion, to the tune of \u201cSilent Night,\u201d <\/a>one anonymous woman showed more courage than the fictional Olivia Pope could even imagine.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t know who she is, but she endured a pregnancy, which was no doubt difficult and scary, and then gave birth under unfortunate circumstances.<\/p>\n We know this, because the child \u2014 a baby boy, with the umbilical cord still attached \u2014 was\u00a0left within an\u00a0indoor Nativity scene at the Holy Child Jesus Catholic Church<\/a> in Richmond Hills, Queens, N.Y. A custodian found the baby around lunchtime on Monday, Nov. 23.<\/p>\n From WABC\/Channel 7:<\/p>\n He heard crying and followed the noises to the nativity scene, which was being set up for the holiday season.<\/span> Thank you, whomever you are, for bringing this child into the world and then not leaving him in a dumpster or a toilet or some of the other awful places babies are abandoned.<\/p>\n Obviously, a hospital or a police station would have been better, but being put in the care of Mary and Joseph will do in a pinch. OK, maybe they weren\u2019t in the Nativity display quite\u00a0yet, but you know they were keeping watch nearby.<\/p>\n
The newborn was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he is doing fine. He is said to be just over 5 pounds and 17 inches long.<\/span>
By law, a church is considered a safe haven for drop-offs, but you are supposed to hand the baby off to a responsible person and not leave the child unattended.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
