\"Lightworkers-Mark-Burnett-Roma-Downey-Patheos\"<\/a>As I reported at Family Theater Productions\u2019 Faith & Family Media Blog<\/em><\/a>, the new enterprise launches across the country next month:<\/p>\n

As reported in Variety<\/a><\/em> and at Deadline.com<\/a><\/em>, digital subchannel<\/a> Light TV represents a partnership between MGM \u2014 where Burnett is president of MGM Television and Digital, and Downey runs the production company LightWorkers Media \u2014 and several Fox owned-and-operated stations and affiliates around the country.<\/p>\n

It will feature repackaged content from the MGM library \u2014 including movies like \u201cLilies of the Field\u201d and \u201cChitty Chitty Bang Bang,\u201d and such TV shows as \u201cAre You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?,\u201d \u201cHighway to Heaven\u201d and \u201cHeartland\u201d \u2014 along with developing original programming.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a digital streaming<\/em> channel like Netflix or Hulu. In fact, you wouldn\u2019t even need a computer or cable access to watch it \u2014 provided you have a TV that can be hooked up to a digital antenna.<\/p>\n

When over-the-air TV channels \u2014 such as your local network affiliates \u2014 were forced to move from analog to digital broadcasting a few years ago, extra room opened up in their broadcast signal. This allowed for the creation of digital subchannels. Some of them are carried on local cable systems (usually tucked away in the 500s and above), but they can also be accessed via a digital antenna \u2014 a new version of the old rabbit ears or roof antennas everyone used to have back in the analog days.<\/p>\n

Some subchannels are direct offshoots of the main channel, while others are independent entities renting the bandwith. That\u2019s the case with Light TV, whose lineup of Fox channels\u00a0includes\u00a0New York (WNYW); Los Angeles (KTTV); Chicago (WFLD),; Philadelphia (WTXF); Dallas (KDFW); Houston (KRIV); San Francisco (KTVU); Washington, D.C. (WTTG); Atlanta (WAGA); Orlando (WOFL); Phoenix (KSAZ); Minneapolis (KMSP); and Charlotte, North Carolina (WJZY).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
