\"Danica-Patrick-Epix\"<\/a>This November, cable channel EPIX premieres \u201cDanica,\u201d a documentary on\u00a0professional auto-racing driver, model and TV host Danica Patrick<\/a>, who converted to Catholicism before her marriage to Paul Hospenthal in a Catholic ceremony in\u00a02005.<\/p>\n

She said of her new faith<\/a>:<\/p>\n

It helps me justify situations, that there\u2019s a reason for everything. It makes me feel better in times when I might have been disappointed or angry, like, why me?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That marriage unfortunately ended in an \u201camicable\u201d divorce in 2012, and Patrick is currently dating fellow race driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. No wedding is apparently in the offing, although Patrick told TMZ earlier in July that she was \u201cready yesterday.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The 35-year-old Patrick \u2014 who says she\u2019s \u201chardwired to be competitive in everything I do\u201d \u2014 hasn\u2019t really discussed her conversion, and, for what it\u2019s worth, there\u2019s no public evidence\u00a0as to whether or not she remains a practicing Catholic.<\/p>\n

At a press conference yesterday on the documentary at the biannual Television Critics Association Press Tour, Patrick appeared with sports reporter Hannah Storm, who is directing the film.<\/p>\n

Faith didn\u2019t come up, and it\u2019s not certain it comes up in the film, but we may find out.<\/p>\n

Patrick said:<\/p>\n

People always want to get to know the real you. Until you really show them for real, which that\u2019s what this film is going to do, all they can do is make it up; and sometimes that isn\u2019t as good as the truth, and sometimes it\u2019s not even right. So I think this is a great opportunity to be able to show that truth, and I\u2019m excited. I am excited. I\u2019ve said no to documentaries for my whole career. I did one when I was 19 years old, I think, and I\u2019ve been asked to do documentaries every year. And my agent Alan will call, and he\u2019ll say, \u201cSo just be open\u2011minded.\u201d And I\u2019m, like, \u201cIt\u2019s a documentary.\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 No.\u201d<\/p>\n

I mean, that\u2019s literally what I said, and I believe I said that when we started with this. Then he goes, \u201cJust hear me out.\u201d And when I heard it was Hannah, I was, like, \u201cDo you know what?\u00a0 I feel like we\u2019ve been friends for a really long time.\u00a0 I trust her.\u201d And I \u2011\u2011 like I said in the first question, I have something to say. I think I\u2019ve evolved, and I have a lot of things going on.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Asked what scares her the most, Patrick said:<\/p>\n

Failing. It\u2019s like I said, I don\u2019t want to suck. For me, I\u2019m extremely competitive, and so for me to just not be good at something is scary to me, anything. Playing cards, I don\u2019t like to suck at cards even. So that\u2019s why I felt like it was important with all of these new endeavors, including the documentary, that I go all the way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As to her ultimate goals:<\/p>\n

Because, ultimately, if everyone were to answer, \u201cWhat\u2019s your ultimate goal in life to be successful?\u201d that it would have absolutely nothing to do about an accomplishment. It would have to do with your heart.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Conversion is difficult and deeply personal, and it can be a stop-and-start process \u2014 especially for someone under intense public scrutiny. Let\u2019s see what comes out in the film, and keep Patrick in your prayers.<\/p>\n
