If you\u2019re in Michigan,<\/strong> as I am\u2014and if you\u2019re reading this post on-line, as you are\u2014then let\u2019s hear it for Social Media Day!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Michigan\u2019s Governor Rick Snyder,<\/strong> whose Twitter handle is @onetoughnerd<\/a>, signed the proclamation on June 27, bringing to three the number of states which officially celebrate Social Media Day<\/a> on June 30.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And my home state of Michigan is no slouch, media-wise!<\/strong>\u00a0 Boasting 137 social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Michigan also has the second-largest Facebook presence of any tourism agency.\u00a0 Its political Twitter account, @MIgov, has the third-largest following of any state government.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s not all:<\/strong>\u00a0 Governor Snyder and other state officials frequently hold virtual town hall meetings. \u00a0The media website Mashable reports that online viewers can submit their questions via Twitter using hashtags such as #AskGovSnyder, #MIBudget and #MIJobs.<\/p>\n

The virtual party will be tomorrow.\u00a0<\/strong> Michigan\u2019s social media specialist, Nikki Sunstrum, explains, \u201cAs a state government, we really couldn\u2019t hold a statewide party.\u201d<\/p>\n

Governor Snyder hopes that Michigan\u2019s citizens will learn more about the benefits of social media, and will visit the state of Michigan social media website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
