So here\u2019s the update:\u00a0 the new Managing Editor USA of Aleteia<\/a> is none other than the great Harold Fickett!<\/strong>\u00a0 You may remember his name:\u00a0 Harold has been the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Catholic Exchange<\/a>.\u00a0 Before that, he was Interim Publisher and Executive Editor at Crisis Magazine<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 He was co-author (with Charles Colson) of Faith: What Christians Believe, Why They Believe It, and Why It Matters<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

As he assumes his new responsibilities at the Aleteia offices in Washington D.C., Harold has asked me to clarify something in my post regarding this new evangelistic project; and I am happy to do so.\u00a0 Harold writes:<\/p>\n

We want to correct any impression that we are a Vatican agency. We are not. We are a group of Catholic lay people working through the Foundation for Evangelization through the Media (FEM). FEM is an independent foundation. We seek to cooperate with the programs of the Vatican but so do other faithful Catholic outlets.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As I reported earlier, the official launch will take place September 20 in Rome.\u00a0 Look for more news to follow!<\/p>\n

In Fall 2012, the Vatican will launch a major global evangelization initiative for the digital world.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

Called aleteia<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Seekers of the Truth!,<\/em><\/strong> the project has been developed by the Foundation for Evangelization in the Media, under the patronage of both the Pontifical Council for Social Communications <\/strong>and the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A collaborative platform, aleteia<\/strong><\/span> is an effort to reach millions\u2014especially youth\u2014by transmitting the Faith on the information superhighway.\u00a0 The organization intends to become the premier Christian social media network on the web, by gathering together partners, media and individuals (members, contributors and experts) who will share in the large evangelization outreach both on-line and in the world. \u00a0To reach the greatest number of people, aletia<\/strong><\/span>\u2019s content will be published in six languages.<\/p>\n

In addition to the sponsorship support from the Pontifical Councils for Social Communications and for the New Evangelization, aleteia<\/strong><\/span> has also earned acclaim from the Pontifical Council \u201cCor Unum\u201d<\/strong> and from the Pontifical Council for Culture<\/strong>.\u00a0 Cardinal Robert Sarah, President of \u201cCor Unum,\u201d in a letter dated May 9, 2012, wrote:<\/p>\n

Through the traditional media and the Internet, you wish to make known the evangelical testimonies of charity that show how the Church\u2019s many activities at the service of man are rooted in the experience of the Christian faith.\u00a0 The project will then highlight the close link between faith and charity, and thereby promote evangelization through the great charitable work of the Church, in the spirit of the encyclical Deus Caritas Est<\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, noted that the multimedia project continues the success of the Courtyard of the Gentiles<\/em>, and<\/p>\n
