In May 2011, the Vatican held their first-ever Vatican Blogfest<\/a><\/strong>, bringing together 150 bloggers from around the world.<\/p>\n

On June 29, 2011\u2014with a quick touch of his iPad<\/strong>\u2014Pope Benedict launched<\/a> the Vatican\u2019s new, updated website, news.va<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In November 2011, I reported<\/a> about the extensive use\u00a0 of social media at the U.S. Bishops\u2019 Fall General Assembly\u2014especially the fine reporting by the USCCB\u2019s \u201cUber-Tweeter\u201d<\/strong> Bishop Christopher Coyne.<\/p>\n

And in November 2012, the U.S. bishops will strengthen the bloggers\u2019 relationship with the Church by hosting a Bishops\/Bloggers Meeting<\/strong> before the official opening of the USCCB General Assembly in Baltimore. \u00a0Later that week, at the General Assembly, the bishops are expected to approve a new document encouraging the use of social media in the New Evangelization.<\/p>\n

So of course, it\u2019s time for Pope Benedict to embrace Facebook<\/strong> as a way to make new friends around the world!\u00a0 Here\u2019s how I imagine it will go:<\/p>\n
