\u201cWhen Eve was [in] Adam, death didn\u2019t exist. When she was separated from him, death came into being. If she becomes one with him again and he receives her within himself, there will be no death.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201c[My] God, my God, why, Lord, [have] you forsaken me?\u201d the Teacher said from the cross, because he was divided in that place [in death], as a way to reunite all those who had been separated from God [in their minds]. The Teacher resurrected beyond death. He became what he was before the separation. His body was whole, and it was a true body, unlike ours, which is merely an image of the true body.\u201d <\/em>(Gospel of Philip, vs. 71-72)<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The separation of Eve from Adam that is reported in the book of Genesis is a metaphor. It tells us of their original oneness, when both male and female were alive in one body at Creation.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, God created\u00a0mankind\u00a0in his own image, in the image of God\u00a0he created them; male and female\u00a0he created them.\u201d (Genesis 1:27) <\/em><\/p>\n In Genesis chapter 2, we get a little more detail about the creation of Eve as a helper for Adam.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, the\u00a0Lord\u00a0God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep;\u00a0and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man\u2019s ribs\u00a0and then closed up the place with flesh.\u00a0Then the\u00a0Lord\u00a0God made a woman from the rib\u00a0he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, \u201cThis is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called\u00a0\u2018woman,\u2019 for she was taken out of man.\u201d (Genesis 2:21-23)<\/em><\/p>\n Here, we read that, after God created \u201cMan,\u201d he then created Eve by literally pulling her out of the body of the Man. This means that, originally, both Adam and Eve were alive in the same body. Not that we should take this literally, but metaphorically, it provides a picture of the original Oneness between Male and Female.<\/p>\n This same original Oneness is restored when we are found in Christ, as the Apostle Paul says in both his letter to the Galatians (one of his earliest epistles) and also in Colossians (one of the epistles based on his private teachings to his disciples published after his death).<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cSo, in Christ Jesus you are all children of God\u00a0through faith<\/strong>,\u00a0for all of you who were baptized into Christ\u00a0have clothed yourselves with Christ.\u00a0There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free,\u00a0nor is there male and female,\u00a0for you are all one in Christ Jesus.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em> (Galatians 3:26-28)<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201c(In Christ) there is no Gentile or Jew,\u00a0circumcised or uncircumcised,\u00a0barbarian, Scythian, slave or free,\u00a0but Christ is all,\u00a0and is in all.\u201d<\/em><\/strong> (Colossians 3:11)<\/p>\n In the earlier passage to the Galatians, Paul proclaims that \u201cIn Christ\u2026there is neither\u2026male and female, for you are all one in Christ,\u201d and in the later passage, he amends that to say that all forms of \u201cUs and Them\u201d are invalid because \u201cChrist is all, and is in all.\u201d<\/p>\n What was separated in the Garden is restored in Christ. All are made one again. All humanity is once more united with one another, and this unity is made possible because of our unity with Christ who \u201cis all and in all.\u201d<\/p>\n In this restoration of Oneness, death ceases to exist. Why? Because separation brought death, but Christ has come to give us life, and life more abundantly.<\/p>\n When Jesus cries out from the cross at his crucifixion, he is experiencing death. Death itself is separation when our eternal spirits leave our mortal bodies. Jesus experiences this separation of body and spirit, and cries out. But what he says is a direct quote from Psalm 22, which goes on to say that, even though our mortal bodies may experience separation from our eternal souls, \u201c(God) has not hidden his face from (us), but has listened to (our) cry for help.\u201d<\/em> (Psalm 22: 24)<\/p>\n Therefore, even though Death is a form of separation, it is only a separation of reality and illusion. This is where the illusion of separation is finally abolished; when our eternal spirits are fully revealed and restored to the Oneness of unity with all things.<\/p>\n This is why the Gospel of Philip says that the death that Jesus experienced was \u201ca way to reunite all those who had been separated from God [in their minds].\u201d<\/p>\n After death comes the resurrection. Nothing can resurrect without first dying. This is where we all become what we were before the illusion of separation.
