{"id":6848,"date":"2021-07-20T17:23:11","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T17:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/keithgiles\/?p=6848"},"modified":"2021-07-20T17:23:11","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T17:23:11","slug":"all-or-nothing-reading-scripture-with-our-eyes-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/keithgiles\/2021\/07\/all-or-nothing-reading-scripture-with-our-eyes-open\/","title":{"rendered":"All Or Nothing: Reading Scripture With Our Eyes Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p><figure id=\"attachment_6851\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6851\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6851\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/833\/2021\/07\/pexels-luk%C3%A1%C5%A1-dlutko-2440264.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6851\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: Pexels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>In this article, I\u2019d like to simply point out a few unmistakable facts about what the Scriptures tell us about mercy, forgiveness and salvation.<\/p>\n<p>This won\u2019t take long.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, <strong>Christ is in all and all are in Christ:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cChrist is all and is in all\u201d [Col. 3:11]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c\u2026and you are filled with the fullness of Christ who fills everything in every way.\u201d [Eph. 1:23]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Secondly, <strong>Christ has mercy on all:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFor God has consigned\u00a0all\u00a0to\u00a0disobedience, that he may have\u00a0mercy\u00a0on\u00a0all.\u201d [Romans 11:32]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>\u00a0is good\u00a0to\u00a0all, and his\u00a0mercy\u00a0is over\u00a0all\u00a0that he has made.\u201d [Ps. 145:9]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>God has also reconciled everyone [all] to Himself:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cGod was, in Christ, reconciling\u00a0the world to himself,\u00a0not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us\u00a0the message of reconciliation.<span id=\"en-ESV-28876\" class=\"text 2Cor-5-15\">\u201c<\/span> [2 Cor. 5:19]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span id=\"en-ESV-29468\" class=\"text Col-1-19\">\u201cFor\u00a0in him [Christ] all the\u00a0fullness of God was pleased to dwell,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-29469\" class=\"text Col-1-20\">and\u00a0through him to reconcile to himself all things\u2026\u201d [Col. 1:19-20]<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Christ is also the savior of all:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFor to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the\u00a0Savior\u00a0of\u00a0all\u00a0people, especially\u00a0of\u00a0those who believe.\u201d [1 Tim. 4:10]<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Christ is making everyone and everything new again:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAnd he who was seated on the throne said, \u201cBehold, I am making\u00a0<b>all<\/b>\u00a0<b>things<\/b>\u00a0<b>new<\/b>.\u201d [Rev. 21:5]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So, to summarize:<\/p>\n<p>Christ is in <strong>all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christ has mercy on <strong>all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christ fills us <strong>all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christ has reconciled us<strong> all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christ is the savior of<strong> all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Christ is making <strong>all<\/strong> things new.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>NOTE:<\/strong><\/em> All means \u201c<strong>all<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0 \u2013 as in \u201ceveryone, everywhere, all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thus endeth the lesson.<\/p>\n<p>Selah.<\/p>\n<p>**<\/p>\n<p>Are you questioning your Christian faith?
