Here is the first Amazon customer review of my new book, Christ on the PGA Tour (1965-1982):
I know it is cliché, but this book is a must read for anyone associated with the sport of golf. And, even for a person like me, a Christian who has little familiarity with the professional golf scene, the book was very enjoyable. I’d even say a “page-turner”. Zarley writes and tells a story well.
Kermit Zarley played on the PGA Tour from 1964–1986 and then on the Senior Tour from 1991-2000s. In 1965 he co-founded the PGA Tour Bible Study group which continues to this day.
In this book he weaves together his own personal golf history including a description of the beginning of the PGA Bible Study Group, with personal stories of professional golfers, golf tournament executives and administrators, golf club designers and makers, and each one’s interest or relationship to God and faith.
The book is an inside story on a who’s who of golfers and golf influencers, focusing on the 1960s-1980s. Besides others, among pro golfers we meet are Gary Player, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Billy Casper, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino. Some of the stories of lesser-known golfers are just as fascinating. Then Billy Graham gets a part in the story, as does the creator of Star Trek and the designer of PING golf clubs. It was in Zarley’s description of the people and issues involved in the development of PING golf clubs that I learned why there are professional golfers, and then there are the rest of us.
