$\"MaxineWaters\"$ <\/a>Black U.S. Representative and Democrat Maxine Waters of California was \u201cright on\u201d just minutes ago as she gave a blistering appraisal of President Donald Trump on MSNBC. It was a day after President Trump\u2013gathered together with about eight members of Congress who were all Republican except for Senator Dick Durbin\u2013reportedly and repeatedly called Haiti and African nations \u201cshithole countries\u201d in the closed-door session held to discuss DACA. Joy Reid was interviewing Ms. Waters.<\/p>\n

I agreed with what Representative Waters said about President Trump both just now. Ms. Waters has appeared on her program before. On September 24th last year with Joy Reid, Maxine Waters said President Trump was a \u201cdisgrace\u201d to the U.S. and \u201cdeplorable.\u201d Today, she said she did not attend Trump\u2019s presidential inauguration last year and that she would not be attending his upcoming State of the Union address. She said, \u201cWhy would I go and take my time to listen to a liar, to someone who lied in the face of facts, to someone who can change their tune day in and day out\u2026. I don\u2019t trust him. I don\u2019t appreciate him\u2026. He does not deserve my attention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois was interviewed on television this morning about Mr. Trump\u2019s remarks about \u201cshithole countries.\u201d He said of the president, \u201cIn the course of his comments, [he] said things which were hate-filled, vile, and racist. You\u2019ve seen the comments in the press. I have not read one of them that\u2019s inaccurate. To no surprise, the president started tweeting this morning that he denied using those words. It is not true. He said those hate-filled things, and he said them repeatedly.\u201d The Washington Post<\/em> reported that the president said, \u201cWhy are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?\u201d referring to Haiti, El Salvador, and African countries.<\/p>\n

Senator Lindsey Graham\u2013who last year had vilified President Trump, but lately has been supporting him\u2013vouched for Durbin\u2019s remarks, claiming that the media had been reporting correctly. But Graham was the only Republican in attendance who admitted that Durbin reported correctly. Two of the Republican members said they did not recall Trump making such derogatory comments.<\/p>\n

Mr. Trump is becoming an increasing embarrassment to his nation. His words demonstrate that he is a racist, as I have been saying repeatedly on this blog. Evangelical Christians should be ashamed of themselves for supporting this president and defending such behavior. Their support of Donald Trump is not only hurting this country, both internally and abroad, it is hurting Evangelicalism as well.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
