For as long as I\u2019ve been writing this blog, I have been asked by readers, both supporters\u00a0and\u00a0detractors\u00a0\u201cwhy you gotta be so mean sometimes?\u201d<\/p>\n
I hear regular challenges to my voice, from both sides of the aisle, that read a little something like \u201cwhy can\u2019t we Christians all just get along, you know, because Jesus??\u201d<\/p>\n
Or better yet, the condescending\u00a0scoldings\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cif you had offered your critique of his antisemitic post in a kinder and gentler way, he might have been able to hear it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Or, \u201cyou should be more patient and gentle with hateful\u00a0people, otherwise when you sound angry, they might not be able to hear what you have to say.\u201d<\/p>\n
So I thought it might be a good idea to reiterate a couple of points to the tone police.<\/p>\n
Whether it is the privileged naivet\u00e9 of \u201cwe will just have to agree to disagree\u201d or the sweet, idealistic \u201clet\u2019s set aside our differences and get to work to heal this beautiful but broken world\u201d \u2026 uhhhhmmm \u2013 no.<\/p>\n
Why? Because I am done mollycoddling the willful ignorant, for Christ\u2019s sake. Literally.<\/p>\n
See I am done gently inviting\u00a0homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, racist, misogynistic asshats to do their own work to wake the fuck up and acknowledge the humanity and sacred worth of EVERYONE. \u00a0I am\u00a0done\u00a0tiptoeing around their stubborn clinging to hateful ways while I sit\u00a0pleading in dulcet tones, \u201cplease oh please, won\u2019t you just listen\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
The veil has been lifted and folks, I am looking misanthropic mansplainers square in the eye and not worrying to much if I hurt their wittle feewings. \u00a0I speak my truth to power in whatever tone I deem appropriate and will use what ever language I want as I address the\u00a0WILLFULLY\u00a0ignorant who allow themselves to be manipulated by the powerful.<\/p>\n
There is no excuse in the information age for people to remain ignorant. Do the work, read a fucking book and think for your self (and of more than yourself).<\/p>\n

I know, deep in my weary bones \u2013 through faithful reading of scripture, deep study of tradition, reliance on reason and my own, lived experience that the Incarnation has liberated us from the death-grip graceless fear and loathing of the other. \u00a0Anything that\u00a0rejects that mind-bending grace\u00a0deserves a clear and resounding\u00a0rebuke.<\/p>\n
So, as heartbreaking as this may be for some of my more tender sisters and brothers, I claim something in no uncertain terms. I am not called to be a\u00a0bridge builder smearing a little fresh grout between the\u00a0cracked bricks of ignorance, fear and loathing. Other folks may be called to this work,\u00a0but in Trump\u2019s hateful new world, I\u2019m just flat done with that work if the bridge is really nothing more than a\u00a0shelter for stupidity, avarice and hatred.<\/p>\n
