{"id":133,"date":"2014-06-01T12:15:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-01T12:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/labmind\/2014\/06\/gods-will-be-done.html"},"modified":"2014-06-01T12:15:00","modified_gmt":"2014-06-01T12:15:00","slug":"gods-will-be-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/labmind\/2014\/06\/gods-will-be-done.html","title":{"rendered":"God&#8217;s Will be Done"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">The other night I was reading a book I randomly chose from a bookcase at the entrance of an adoration chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. \u00a0I began reading it and after turning just a few pages I found tucked in between the pages a white, square sheet of paper with a prayer on it. \u00a0A phrase over the prayer read: \u201cThis novena has never failed.\u201d \u00a0I crumpled it up without even reading the prayer. \u00a0I sifted through the book and found two more white, square sheets with the same prayer. \u00a0As I left the chapel it occurred to me to sift through other books in the bookcase. \u00a0After going through roughly thirty books, I took out seventeen of these prayers. \u00a0I threw them away.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ee;text-decoration: underline\">Pulsar aqui para espa\u00f1ol<\/span><\/p>\n<p>One thing is to have complete trust and faith that God will give me what I need, another is to think of God as a fairy God mother who is ready to swing his magic wand and grant me every single one of my wants and desires. \u00a0This is why I find it dangerous to distribute a novena that states it has never failed. \u00a0It gives the impression that God is a fairy God mother rather than the source of all being who sustains us in existence and orders all things in the universe for good. <\/p>\n<p>When we lift up prayers of petition asking God for our needs and the needs of others, we must imitate the leper in Luke\u2019s Gospel who fell prostrate before Jesus and said to him, \u201cLord, if you wish, you can make me clean.\u201d \u00a0Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, \u201cI do will it. \u00a0Be made clean.\u201d \u00a0The leper approached Jesus with an openness to conform his will to the will of God. \u00a0By his words, he places himself entirely at the mercy of Jesus. \u00a0He doesn\u2019t demand a cure with a \u201cnever fail novena\u201d, but does trust that Jesus can heal him. \u00a0The leper surrenders completely to the will of God, whatever it may be, and he is healed.<\/p>\n<p>The leper does not impose his thoughts and opinions on Jesus nor does he try to convince or to control him. \u00a0He does trust that Jesus has the power to heal him, but leaves it entirely up to Him to decide. \u00a0Like the leper\u2019s prayer, our prayers must express abandonment to God\u2019s will, trusting that whatever God wills is best.<\/p>\n<p>In the perfect prayer Jesus teaches us to pray, \u201cthy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.\u201d \u00a0Every prayer of petition must be accompanied by these words. \u00a0Many times we approach God and say to him, \u201cmy will be done\u201d rather than \u201cthy will be done,\u201d limiting Him with our own ideas rather than allowing Him to surprise us.<\/p>\n<p>Of course we must ask, Jesus said after all, \u201cask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened to you,\u201d yet we must always remember that in all things we ask in faith, that God\u2019s will be done. \u00a0Otherwise we set ourselves up for an enormous disappointment. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The other night I was reading a book I randomly chose from a bookcase at the entrance of an adoration chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. \u00a0I began reading it and after turning just a few pages I found tucked in between the pages a white, square sheet of paper with a prayer on it. \u00a0A [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2533,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-133","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v21.1 -
