On the Vigil of the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace, (September 7th) Pope Francis has called for a worldwide day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria. <\/p>\n
As the situation in Syria worsens and the United States contemplates taking military action, Pope Francis reminds us that, \u201cthere is no use of violence which leads to peace, war begets war, violence begets violence\u2026 there is a judgment from God and from history over our actions from which we cannot run.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Pope called on the international community to provide \u201cclear initiatives for peace based on dialogue and negotiation for the wellbeing of the Syrian population.\u201d<\/p>\n
His words \u201cNo more war!\u201d were greeted by a cheering crowd at Saint Peter Square. \u00a0He continued, \u201cpeace is a very precious gift that must be promoted and protected.\u201d <\/p>\n
The Pope has invited the 1.2 billion Catholics as well all people of good will to unite in prayer and fasting for peace this upcoming September 7th. \u00a0I pray the Lord will have mercy on us, on Syria and especially the Christian communities in Syria.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
