Ever since celebrating First Communion at my parish last Saturday, I\u2019ve been remembering my own First Communion. \u00a0It happened on April 20th, 1991, at Santa Maria Reina Parish in San Isidro (Lima), just six days before leaving Peru. \u00a0My parents had already decided we would leave Peru, but chose to stay till after my first communion so I could receive it with my friends from school.<\/p>\n

On the last page of a book with my first\u00a0communion\u00a0pictures and memories I wrote under a heading which reads \u201cMy Goals as of Today\u201d: \u00a0I will do good things, I will be good and I will receive communion every Sunday. \u00a0I hadn\u2019t read these goals ever since the day I wrote them. \u00a0As a priest I am certain to be on track to be faithful to all three!<\/p>\n

I am beyond thankful for God\u2019s wisdom and strength which I\u2019ve received throughout my life through the Eucharist. \u00a0He has manifested himself powerfully and guided me.<\/p>\n

Jesus tells us in the Gospel of Saint John: \u201cAmen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. \u00a0Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. \u00a0For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. \u00a0Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.\u201d<\/p>\n
