{"id":259,"date":"2013-04-22T21:06:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-22T21:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/labmind\/2013\/04\/syrian-bishops-abducted.html"},"modified":"2013-04-22T21:06:00","modified_gmt":"2013-04-22T21:06:00","slug":"syrian-bishops-abducted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/labmind\/2013\/04\/syrian-bishops-abducted.html","title":{"rendered":"Syrian bishops abducted"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\">In a portion of a letter dated April 22, 2013 and signed by His Grace, Bishop Basil, Secretary of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America to all member hierarchs, prayers were requested for two Syrian hierarchs who had been abducted earlier that day. \u00a0The text of the letter reads as follows (below):<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cMetropolitan Paul Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo (brother of His Beatitude Patriarch John X of the Great City-of-God Antioch and all the East), and Mar Gregorios Yohanna Ibrahim of the Syriac Orthodox Archdiocese of Aleppo, were both abducted this morning, Monday, April 22nd, while they were traveling together on the road between Antioch (Antakya, Turkey) and the north Syrian city of Aleppo. \u00a0The driver of the vehicle in which they were traveling was killed in the attack. \u00a0Your prayers are requested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Continue to pray for Christians in Syria!<\/p>\n<p>Pray for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/labmind\/2013\/03\/pray-for-kidnapped-priest-friend.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"> Father Michel Kayal<\/a>, still no word from his kidnappers in order to negotiate.<\/p>\n<p>The abducted Syriac Orthodox bishop wrote this exactly two months ago:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe major and most dangerous phenomenon which has greatly affected the Christian presence in the city of Aleppo is immigration of Christians and seeking refuge in safer cities of neighboring countries, especially Lebanon. Many families have managed to reach Europe, particularly Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. With the current deterioration of security and employment, no one can predict when these families will ever return back to their homes and what we are experiencing is a one way exodus!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really are fatigued and all we wish for is to stop the bloodshed that is happening today in the streets of Syria, bring about security and peace, so that humanitarian aid can reach the population who is in desperate need for it all over Syria.
