There is much wisdom in the Church\u2019s celebration of the feasts of Saint Monica and Saint Augustine one day apart from each other.\u00a0 Yesterday we recalled Saint Monica\u2019s perseverance in trail and adversity, and today we rejoice in the fruit of her prayer: the conversion of her son Augustine.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
One of Augustine\u2019s most famous lines from his masterwork Confessions<\/em> is found early in the work, \u201cYou have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until in rests in you.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Augustine\u2019s nugget of wisdom\u00a0points to\u00a0a common human experience: every person\u00a0is born with a void inside, a missing piece, which makes us restless and moves us to find fulfillment throughout our lives.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n
This restlessness leads us to seek meaning and direction so we may achieve happiness and peace.\u00a0 We try to satisfy this restlessness with various things throughout life.\u00a0\u00a0Some things\u00a0satisfy to a degree, others give the impression of satisfaction yet create more restlessness.\u00a0 The only way to\u00a0fill that\u00a0void and satisfy the restlessness is to invite God to fill it.\u00a0 He holds the last piece of the\u00a0puzzle which fits flawlessly into our souls.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
God has created us and His mark in our souls moves us to seek Him to find fulfillment.\u00a0 A life without God is a restless life since nothing will fully satisfy.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Augustine found in God what\u00a0a life of debauchery and hedonism could not provide.\u00a0 His heart found rest and fulfillment in God alone, transforming his life.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Augustine and Monica found fulfillment in God during their earthly lives, and now they rest in the eternal peace of Christ the Lord.\u00a0 May they rest in peace with all the glorious saints of God who now have every desire satisfied in Christ.\u00a0 May this be our hope, knowing that Christ is the answer to every human desire, that Christ alone can truly satisfy our aching, restless\u00a0hearts.<\/div>\n
