What the angel announced to the Virgin Mary is finally fulfilled! \u00a0Above is a curious detail from the high altar of the Carthusian Monastery of Miraflores in Burgos, Spain. \u00a0It depicts the Annunciation, Gabriel stands on the left and the Virgin Mary on the right. \u00a0Between them, coming from above is a ray of yellow light and in the middle of this light is baby Jesus diving from heaven into the Virgin Mary\u2019s head. \u00a0You don\u2019t see it? \u00a0Look below at the red circle.<\/div>\n

This is the only time I\u2019ve seen baby Jesus diving from heaven into the womb of the Virgin Mary. \u00a0Though it\u2019s an attempt to demonstrate the mystery of the incarnation, this depiction is very problematic. \u00a0It implies baby Jesus came down from heaven already in human form, while we know the Virgin Mary conceived him, formed him in her womb and gave birth to him. \u00a0If Jesus could come down from heaven already in human form, he would not have needed to be born of the Virgin Mary! \u00a0This is the mystery of Christmas, that God made man was born of the Virgin Mary. \u00a0That God became like us in all things but sin.<\/div>\n

I\u2019d like to share a beautiful medieval Christmas carol called Gaudete, Christus est natus<\/i>,\u00a0Rejoice, Christ is born. \u00a0There are many recordings and arrangements of this old carol, I enjoyed this particular one I found on youtube. \u00a0Below are the words in Latin and English (courtesy of Wikipedia).<\/div>\n
