{"id":761,"date":"2010-04-27T17:48:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-27T17:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/labmind\/2010\/04\/good-shepherd-sunday.html"},"modified":"2010-04-27T17:48:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-27T17:48:00","slug":"good-shepherd-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/labmind\/2010\/04\/good-shepherd-sunday.html","title":{"rendered":"Good Shepherd Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>This is an excerpt from my homily on Good Shepherd Sunday on listening to Jesus and the Gospel.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever we listen to is what we think about.<br>Whoever we listen to is the person we strive to imitate.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if we have the TV on all day on a 24 hour news network, we will start worrying and obsessing about events happening half a world away that have nothing to do with our lives.  We will feel burdened, and maybe even begin to despair.  What we listen to is what we think about.<\/p>\n<p>We listen to so many people each day: parents, family members, children, friends and neighbors.  We listen to co-workers, TV reporters, singers, radio station DJs, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Of all the people we listen to during the day though, which one is the most important? <\/p>\n<p>When we meet someone we admire, don\u2019t we \u201ceat up\u201d every word they utter?  Holding on to each one of their words and phrases.  We listen closely to the person we admire because somehow we want to be like them, we want to imitate them.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus promises those who listen to him green pastures and flowing waters where there will be everlasting peace.  He promises us eternal life.  Shouldn\u2019t we be listening to Him\u2026 A LOT?<\/p>\n<p>Shouldn\u2019t the Gospel be what we listen to attentively and think about?<br>Shouldn\u2019t Jesus be the person we strive to listen to every day of our lives and imitate?<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is an excerpt from my homily on Good Shepherd Sunday on listening to Jesus and the Gospel.
