{"id":1140,"date":"2005-02-16T16:12:35","date_gmt":"2005-02-16T16:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leithart.level2d.com\/?p=1140"},"modified":"2017-09-06T23:51:35","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T17:51:35","slug":"translation-kings-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/leithart\/2005\/02\/translation-kings-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Translation, 1 Kings 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\">\n<\/head><body><p><\/p><p> And it was many days. <br> Now the word of Yahweh was to ?Eliyyahu in the third year, saying, <br> ?Walk, cause-yourself-to-be-seen to ?Achav <br> And I will give rain on the face of the earth.?E <br> And walked ?Eliyyahu to cause-himself-to-be-seen to ?Achav <br> Now the famine was strong in Shomron. <br> And called ?Achav to ?Ovadyahu who [was] over the house ?E <br> Now ?Ovadyahu feared Yahweh, very much, <br> And it was in the cutting-off of ?Iyzevel of the prophets of Yahweh <br> And took ?Ovadyahu 100 prophets <br> And he safeguarded them fifty men in a cave <br> And he provided bread and water ?E <br> And said ?Achav to ?Ovadyahu <br> ?Walk in the land to all the eyes of water and to all the wadis. <br> Perhaps we will find vegetation <br> And we will keep-alive horse and mule <br> And we will not cut off from the cattle.?E <br> And they divided to them the land to pass through on her. <br> ?Achav walked in one way alone. <br> Now ?Ovadyahu walked in one way alone. <br> And ?Ovadyahu was in the way <br> Now ?EPOOF ?E?Eliyyahu to call him <br> And he recognized him <br> And he fell on his face, and he said, <br> ?Is this you yourself, my master ?Eliyyahu??E <br> And he said to him, <br> ?I. <br> Walk, say to your master, <br> ?See here! ?Eliyyahu!?? <br> And he said, <br> ?How have I sinned? <br> For you give your servant into the hand of ?Achav <br> To cause him to die. <br> Life of Yahweh, your Elohim! <br> If there is not a nation and kingdom <br> Which my master has not sent there to search you out. <br> And they said, ?There is not,?E <br> And he imposed-an-oath on the kingdom or nation <br> For they did not find you. <\/p>\n<p> But now, you yourself say, <br> ?Walk, say to your master, ?See here! ?Eliyyahu!?? <br> And it will be, I myself will walk from you <br> But Spirit of Yahweh will carry you over which I do not know <br> And I will enter to announce to ?Achav <br> But he will not find you <br> And he will murder me. <br> But your servant has feared Yahweh from my youth. <\/p>\n<p> Has it not been announced to my master <br> Which I did in the murdering (killing-time) of ?Iyzebel of the prophets of Yahweh <br> And I safeguarded from the prophets of Yahweh <br> 100 men, fifty-fifty men, in a cave <br> And I provided them bread and water? <br> But now, you yourself say, <br> ?Walk, say to your master, ?See here! ?Eliyyahu!?? <br> And he will murder me.?E <br> And said ?Eliyyahu, <br> ?Life of Yahweh of hosts! <br> Which I stand before his face. <br> For the day I will cause-myself-to-be-seen to him. <\/p>\n<p> And walked ?Ovadyahu <br> to call ?Achav <br> And he announced to him. <br> And walked ?Achav <br> to call ?Eliyyahu. <br> And it was according to the seeing of ?Achav of ?Eliyyahu <br> And said ?Achav to him, <br> ?Is this you <br> Troubler of Yisrael??E <br> And he said, <br> ?Not! I do not trouble Yisrael. <br> For if you yourself and the house of your father <br> In your forsaking the commandments of Yahweh <br> And you walked after the Baals. <br> But now, send and gather to me all Yisrael to Har-Karmel <br> And the prophets of the ball, four hundred and fifty <br> And the prophets of Asherah, four hundred, <br> The eaters of the table of ?Iyzebel.?E <br> And sent ?Achav in all the sons of Yisrael <br> And he gathered the prophets to Har-Karmel. <br> Then drew near ?Eliyyahu to all the people and he said, <br> ?How long will you be limping between two crutches. <br> If Yahweh is the Elohim, walk after him. <br> But if the Baal, walk after him.?E <br> And the people did not answer him a word. <br> And said ?Eliyyahu to the people, <br> ?I myself I remain a prophet to Yahweh, alone. <br> But the prophets of the Baal are four hundred and fifty men. <br> And let them give to us two bulls <br> And they choose for themselves the one bull <br> And they shall cut it <br> And they shall place it on the word <br> But fire they shall not place. <br> And I, myself, will make the one bull <br> And I will give on the wood <br> But fire I will not set. <br> And you shall call on the name of your Elohim. <br> But I, myself, will call on the name of Yahweh. <br> And it will be the Elohim who answers in fire <br> He [is] the Elohim.?E <br> And answered all the people and they said <br> ?Good [is] the word\/thing.?E <br> And said Eliyyahu to the prophets of the Baal, <br> ?Choose for yourselves the one bull <br> And make first, for you are many. <br> And call on the name of your Elohim. <br> But fire you shall not set.?E <br> And they took the bull which he gave to them <br> And they made <br> And they called on the name of the Baal from the morning until the noon, saying, <br> ?Baal, answer us.?E <br> But there was no voice and there was no answer. <br> And they limped around the altar which they made. <br> And it was in the noon <br> Mocked them ?Eliyyahu and said, <br> ?Call in a great voice <br> For Elohim is he. <br> For he is deep in thought. <br> For he is taking a s*** for himself. <br> For [there is] a journey for him. <br> Perhaps he himself sleeps and he is awakened.?E <br> And they called in a great voice <br> And they cut themselves according to their custom with swords and with spears <br> Until flowed blood on them. <br> And it was according to the passing-by of noon <br> And they prophesied until the ascensions of the tribute <br> And there was no voice <br> And there was no answer <br> And there was no attention. <br> And said ?Eliyyahu to all the people, <br> ?Draw near to me.?E <br> And they drew near, all the people, to him. <br> And he healed the altar of Yahweh, the destroyed one. <br> And took Eliyyahu two and ten stones <br> According to the number of the tribes of the sons of Ya?aqov <br> Which was the word of Yahweh to him, saying, <br> ?Yisrael shall be your name.?E <br> And he built the stones an altar in the name of Yahweh <br> And he made a high-trench according to the house of seahs of seed <br> Surrounding the altar. <br> And he laid out the wood and cut-in-pieces the ox <br> And set on the wood. <br> And he said, <br> ?Fill four large-jars of water <br> And empty out on the ascension and on the wood.?E <br> And he said, <br> ?A second.?E <br> And a second time they did. <br> And he said, <br> ?A third.?E <br> And a third time they did. <br> And went\/walked the water surrounding to the altar <br> And also the trench filled [with] water. <br> And it was in the ascensions of the tribute <br> And drew near Eliyyahu the prophet and said, <br> ?Yahweh, Elohim of Avraham, Yitzchaq, and Yisrael <br> The day let it be know that You Yourself are Elohim in Yisrael. <br> And I, even I, your servant, <br> And in Your word I did all these things\/words. <br> Answer me, Yahweh, answer me. <br> And this people will know that You Yourself [are] Yahweh the Elohim. <br> And you yourself turn their hearts backwards.?E <br> And fell fire of Yahweh <br> And it ate <br> the ascension <br> and the wood <br> and the stones <br> and the dust <br> and the water which was in the trench <br> it licked. <br> And feared all the people <br> And they fell on their faces and they said, <br> ?Yahweh, He Himself is the Elohim! <br> Yahweh, He Himself is the Elohim!?E <br> And said ?Eliyyahu to them <br> ?Seize the prophets of the Baal <br> A man do not save from them.?E <br> So they seized them <br> And Eliyyahu caused them to come down to the wadi Qiyshon <br> And they slaughter-sacrificed them there. <br> And said ?Eliyyahu to ?Achav, <br> ?Ascend. <br> Eat and drink. <br> For the voice of tumult of rainfall.?E <br> And ascended ?Achav to eat and to drink <br> Now Eliyyahu ascended to the head of Karmel <br> And he bowed-down on the earth <br> And he set his face between his knees. <br> And he said to his lad, <br> ?Ascend, please. <br> Gaze to the way of the sea.?E <br> And he ascended and he gazed and the said, <br> ?There is not anything at all.?E <br> And he said, ?return?Eseven feet\/times. <br> And it was in the seventh and he said, <br> ?Behold, a cloud smaller than the palm of a man ascending from the sea.?E <br> And he said, <br> ?Ascend, say to ?Achav, <br> ?Tie and go down. <br> And the<br>\nrainfall will not hinder you.?? <br> And it was until thus and until thus <br> And the heavens darknened, and the clouds and the Spirit\/wind <br> And it was a great rainfall. <br> And rode ?Achav and walked\/went to Yizre?elah. <br> Now the hand of Yahweh was to ?Eliyyahu <br> And he girded his loins <br> And he ran before the face of ?Achav until you are entering Yizre?elah.   <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And it was many days.
