The 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica <\/em> mentions Wurm\u2019s thesis that John\u2019s opponents were Jewish Christians, but concludes that \u201cthe antithesis of John and Cerinthus, unlike that of Paul and Cerinthus (Epiph.
