Ephesians 5 of course draws an analogy between marriage and Christ\u2019s relation to His church: <\/p>\n

Verse 29, though, puts it differently. With Genesis 2\u2019s phrase \u201cone flesh\u201d in view, Paul says that \u201cno one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church.\u201d Here the analogy works this way: <\/p>\n
Man:flesh::Christ:church <\/p>\n
These are equivalent comparisons because a man\u2019s wife is husband of his bride. What\u2019s striking here, however, are the Christo-ecclesiological implications.
