Hosea\u2019s daughter is named Lo-ruhamah (1:6), and the Lord explains that her name signifies that He \u201cwill no longer have compassion on the house of Israel.\u201d Lo-ruhamah means \u201cno compassion.\u201d <\/p>\n
But the word ruhamah is linked to the Hebrew word for \u201cwomb\u201d; as many have pointed out, Yahweh\u2019s compassion is \u201cwombliness,\u201d the compassion of a mother for a child she has birthed. Yahweh removes His motherly compassion from Israel, and Hosea\u2019s daughter is a sign of that. <\/p>\n
Hosea 1:6 might also indicate some connection between the Lord\u2019s withdrawal of compassion and Israel\u2019s infertility.
