{"id":5506,"date":"2010-03-23T07:52:13","date_gmt":"2010-03-23T07:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/leithart.level2d.com\/?p=2506"},"modified":"2017-09-06T23:48:04","modified_gmt":"2017-09-06T17:48:04","slug":"word-patterns-in-zechariah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/leithart\/2010\/03\/word-patterns-in-zechariah\/","title":{"rendered":"Word patterns in Zechariah 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\">\n<\/head><body><p><\/p><p> Zechariah 1:1-6, the introduction to the prophecy, uses a number of words or phrases a significant number of times. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cYahweh\u201d is used eight times. \u00a0Eight is the number of rebirth, a new week, resurrection on the day after the Sabbath. \u00a0Plus, Zechriah begins to prophecy in the eighth month. <\/p>\n<p> Of those eight uses, five are in the phrase \u201cYahweh of hosts,\u201d or \u201cYahweh of Armies.\u201d \u00a0Five is associated with military formation, and so the fievold use of the militant name of Yahweh is fitting. \u00a0He\u2019s getting ready to fight on behalf of Israel. <\/p>\n<p> \u201cReturn\u201d is used four times. \u00a0Though Israel has returned from their scattering to the four corners of the earth, Yahweh is not satisfied with that return. \u00a0He wants them to \u201creturn\u201d to Him rather than fall away as their fathers did (v. 4). \u00a0Interestingly, Israel\u2019s return is both prior to and a prerequisite of Yahweh\u2019s return to Israel (v. 3). \u00a0ISrael is the pursuing bride, whose Lord and Lover will respond to her love. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zechariah 1:1-6, the introduction to the prophecy, uses a number of words or phrases a significant number of times. \u201cYahweh\u201d is used eight times. \u00a0Eight is the number of rebirth, a new week, resurrection on the day after the Sabbath. \u00a0Plus, Zechriah begins to prophecy in the eighth month.
