<\/p>

1 Corinthians 10:14-22 forms a paragraph of its own. Prior to this section of 1 Corinthians 10, Paul is drawing out an extended comparison between Israel\u2019s exodus and wilderness wanderings and the state of the Corinthian church. After verse 23, he draws the conclusion that eating and drinking should be governed by love for the brothers. <\/p>\n

Between these two, the paragraph in verses 14-22 forms a rough chiasm: <\/p>\n

A. Flee idolatry, v 14 <\/p>\n

B. Argument from Eucharist: cup and loaf are koinonia <\/em> in body and blood and partake ( metecho <\/em> ) of loaf, vv 15-17 <\/p>\n

C. Argument from Israel according to flesh ( koinonos <\/em> ), v 18 <\/p>\n

D. Idols are nothing; Gentiles worship demons, vv 19-20a <\/p>\n

C\u2019. No fellowship ( koinonos <\/em> ) with demons, v 20b <\/p>\n

B\u2019. Cup and table; partake of demons ( metecho <\/em> ), v 21 <\/p>\n

A\u2019. Don\u2019t provoke the Lord to jealousy, v 22 <\/p>\n

A\/A\u2019: Flee idolatry\u2014> what\u2019s more, don\u2019t provoke the Lord to jealousy with your idols <\/p>\n

B\/B\u2019: Cup and loaf are communion in body and blood \u2014> what\u2019s more, pagan cup and table are communion in devils <\/p>\n

C\/C\u2019: Israel according to flesh partook of altar by eating \u2014> what\u2019s more, don\u2019t be partners with demons by eating from their altars <\/p>\n
