Jacques Derrida: Live Theory <\/a> ![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=leithartcom-20&l=as2&o=1&a=0826462812\")
, James K.A. Smith assesses Derrida\u2019s debt to Marx. Despite owing a real debt, Smith notes that there is \u201ca fundamental logic of dissociation at work in Derrida\u2019s \u2018spirit of Marxism\u2019 whereby he distances himself from the doctrines and dogmatics of a Marxist ontotheology and \u2018the Party.\u2019\u201d As he seeks the religious without the specifics of particular religions, so he seeks a \u201cpurely \u2018formal\u2019 Marxism without Marxism.\u201d <\/p>\n One reason, Smith says (quoting Derrida) is that \u201ccontent . . . is always deconstructible.\u2019\u201d Smith glosses: \u201cThe determination and fixation of particular doctrines, programmes, policies and even manifestos are finite demarcations and, like the laws of hospitality, can measure up to the \u2018Great Law\u2019 of justice\u201d (87). <\/p>\n
Which raises two responses in my mind: First, Derrida is post <\/em> -structuralist?
