Catholic Relief Services<\/a> and the CRS Rice Bowl<\/a> program have created a compelling Lenten video series that asks \u201c What is Lent<\/a>?\u201d. For eight days, I am sharing each of the videos here at the blog. I hope you\u2019ll join me in this brief retreat. I believe you\u2019ll find, as I have, that these videos lead to deeper reflection and increased motivation.<\/em><\/p>\n

Today, we hear from Kerry Weber:<\/p>\n

<\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote>Kerry Weber, Managing Editor at America Magazine and former CRS Egan Journalism Fellow, describes her experience with Mercy during the season of Lent.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\nThis video makes me smile. Kerry is a great friend of mine. I met her when we traveled together with CRS to Rwanda and have watch her apostolate flourish over the last several months. In this video, Kerry makes reference to her fantastic book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0829438920\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0829438920&linkCode=as2&tag=catholicmomcom&linkId=IAMG7MLPCB5P7J3S\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mercy in the City: How to Feed the Hungry, Give Drink to the Thirsty, Visit the Imprisoned, and Keep Your Day Job<\/em><\/a>. If you haven\u2019t already read the book, PLEASE put it high on your \u201cmust read\u201d list this Lent.<\/p>\nAs is evident in her video, Kerry\u2019s style is engaging, encouraging and \u201creal world\u201d. She ends this video with the words \u201cLent is a journey in mercy.\u201d<\/strong> Today, I\u2019m praying about how my Lenten devotions have the potential to make me see the world around me with greater mercy.<\/p>\nMercy demands that I look around myself, make connections, and\u2013yes<\/em>\u2013move beyond my comfort zone. Mercy demands that I not only have compassion for those around me who are in need of love, but also that I ACT on that compassion. Mercy demands that I do what I can to make a difference. Mercy demands that I love as Christ did, and as he calls me to in the gospels.
