Quite a variety of responses there. Some show evidence that the writers actually read Chattaway\u2019s review. (And you can bet that there were plenty of other letters CT found unfit to print.)<\/p>\n

But the Ted Slater award* goes to Ron F. Wagley, who says:<\/p>\n

Your review of Save Me<\/em> leaves me saddened that you endorse this movie and its presentation of homosexuality as okay\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Read Chattaway\u2019s review again. Note the 2 1\/2 stars. Note Chattaway\u2019s careful attention to the film\u2019s strengths and weaknesses. A review is not an endorsement, and especially not this review. Do you see him endorsing<\/em> the movie, or \u201cendorsing<\/em> its presentation of homosexuality as okay\u201d?<\/p>\n

Of course not. Wagley\u2019s contempt blinds him to what is written on the page in front of him. I hope he recovers from this fever and sees more clearly.<\/p>\n

\u2013<\/p>\n

*What\u2019s <\/strong>the Ted Slater award?<\/p>\n

This award goes to anyone who publicly accuses a Christian of something that all available evidence directly contradicts. It\u2019s named for Ted Slater, editor of Focus on the Family\u2019s Boundless.org. When Christianity Today ran a mixed review of Sex and the City<\/em> and criticized the explicit sex scenes, Slater published an \u201copen letter to Christianity Today\u201d in which he accused Christianity Today<\/em> of \u201crelishing sexual perversion\u201d and \u201cenjoying\u201d \u201cpornography.\u201d This in spite of the reviewer\u2019s clear criticism of the film\u2019s sexually explicit material, the reviewer\u2019s careful distinction that she appreciated some storytelling aspects of the film while disliking others, and the reviewer\u2019s insistence that the substance of Sex and the City<\/em> elevates it above pornography. Sigh.<\/p>\n

So far, Slater has not, to my knowledge, retracted his words or published any kind of apology for calling those of us at CTMovies being porn-loving perverts.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
