Are you looking forward to the appearance of Bacchus in Prince Caspian<\/em>?<\/p>\n

Alas, you won\u2019t see that scene.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s just the beginning of the cuts that concern Peter T. Chattaway in his review of the movie at Christianity Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wow.<\/p>\n

Chattaway does find the film quite entertaining.<\/p>\n

But I just wish that efforts like this one, and like Alfonzo Cuaron\u2019s extraordinary film Children of Men<\/em>, would do away with the label \u201cBased on the book.\u201d Rather, they are new stories<\/em>, \u201cInspired by elements of the book.\u201d<\/p>\n

I love what was announced at the beginning of the film The Name of the Rose<\/em>: \u201cA Palimpsest<\/strong> of the Novel.\u201d That tells you right there that this is *not* going to be the story written by Umberto Eco. Rather, it\u2019s commercial entertainment in which someone else\u2019s premise was reimagined, shaped into something new.<\/p>\n

Now, contrary to how it may seem, I\u2019m not \u201cout to get\u201d Prince Caspian<\/em>. It sounds like an exciting action adventure. I\u2019m just questioning any filmmaker or publicist who talks about bringing C.S. Lewis\u2019s story to the screen. Because if the reviews I\u2019m reading are true\u2026 they didn\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
