This Friday, the unthinkable happens \u2026<\/p>\n
We get a superhero movie that\u2019s so good, it rivals Spider-man 2 <\/em>as the best superhero movie of the year.<\/p>\n Pixar\u2019s The Incredibles <\/em>keeps the studio\u2019s perfect record: It hasn\u2019t released a stinker yet. This is their most ambitious, action-packed film of all. But it\u2019s distinct for several reasons, the most obvious of which is that the story will have a lot more to say to adults than to youngsters.<\/p>\n The Incredibles<\/em> is very funny. There are a million laughs along the way. The voice talents \u2026 especially Holly Hunter\u2026 are again perfect.<\/p>\n Pixar and Brad Bird are a perfect match. Bird, the man responsible for The Iron Giant<\/em>, brings the same lickety-split, Loony Tunes lunacy to these colorful, unforgettable characters.<\/p>\n But in comparison to other Pixar films, this one falls a bit short. The animation, while astonishing, seemed at times a bit flat and unfinished, compared to the faultlessly awe-inspiring look of Finding Nemo<\/em>.<\/p>\n Not to mention the fact that this one\u2019s built out of used parts (comic book hero conventions), whereas all of the previous Pixar films have been worlds unlike anything I\u2019ve ever seen. I\u2019ve seen too many superhero films, and this one, while it brings a freshness and energy to that kind of wonderland, packs a weaker punch than Toy Story<\/em> because of so much familiarity. But it\u2019s far better than A Bug\u2019s Life<\/em> and Monster\u2019s Inc.<\/em><\/p>\n It\u2019s certainly the most \u201cgrownup\u201d of the Pixar movies. I was very surprised at a few of the \u201cmature\u201d punchlines along the way, and the subtle dealing with the threat of adultery and the allure of its \u201cmirage.\u201d<\/p>\n But these characters are instant classics, and I do hope there are sequels. My detailed review is coming to CT Movies on Friday.<\/p>\n Oh \u2026 and another thing. If you go see The Incredibles, you\u2019ll see the trailer for Star Wars \u2013 Episode Three. <\/em>Enjoy it.
