$\"Frozen$ <\/a>Symptoms of a devastating epidemic struck my coworker Julia yesterday. She slumped forward on her desk, pressed her hands against her ears, and groaned, \u201cOh, it\u2019s still in my head. It\u2019s been there for days. It just keeps going and going and it won\u2019t stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

This mysterious and severe affliction has swept across America and around the world. Parents are the population that suffers most.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s called \u201cLet It Go,\u201d and scientists have pinpointed Disney\u2019s animated feature Frozen as the origin of the earworm.<\/p>\n

To help Julia escape the song\u2019s merciless grip, I quickly wrote her a prescription\u2014specifically, last week\u2019s installment of Listening Closer. It was loaded with links to other catchy songs that have become unpopular, melodies that might worm their way into her head and devour, or at least subdue, the \u201cLet It Go\u201d virus for a while.<\/p>\n

But the conversation left me wondering: why \u201cLet It Go\u201d?<\/p>\n
