Here is a note from OneWheaton’s executive team: “Since OneWheaton’s launch this past spring, it’s been our privilege to receive an incredible amount of support and positive feedback from many alumni, students and friends. We’ve been moved to know of numerous public and private conversations that have unfolded in the past four months. With Wheaton recently receiving the designation as the #1 LGBT unfriendly school in America, we have been exploring more opportunities to build bridges and open dialogue for... Read more

A few days ago the BBC World News featured the work of The Marin Foundation in written and audio form! Above is a screenshot I took of the BBC’s home page on their website… And that’s us as the feature story! It’s been crazy since it went live. We have gotten tons of folks reaching out from all over the world. This impact of our story is being felt! It’s such a humbling thing to have happen, and it’s definitely... Read more

In 1864 while making an address at the Sanitary Faire in Baltimore, MD, Abraham Lincoln spoke of the meaning of liberty this way: “We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others, the same word many mean for some men to do as they... Read more

I was recently alerted by a good friend to the 9/11 Walks happening all over the world this Sunday, September 11th, on the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. I believe these interfaith walks are an important step to continue moving our culture forward in its healing and our constant, and intentional, pursuit of reconciliation. We must show love in tangible, measurable, expressions of unconditional behaviors. I have already signed up for the walk in Chicago, and if any... Read more

This past Sunday I preached both services at Restore Community Church in Liberty, MO, just outside of Kansas City. The series was on Poverty in Your Own Backyard, and they asked me to preach on Poverty of Community. I thought the only way to understand what a poverty of community is, one must first understand the ideal of community. So that is what I preached on. You can listen to my sermon here. You can also see some photos from... Read more

Life in Boystown: As all of you probably know I live in the LGBT neighborhood of Chicago called Boystown, It’s where my friends live, it’s where I hang out, it’s where I go out to eat, where I go to the bank, work out, go grocery shopping and where I get my hair cut. These are the stories of my everyday experiences in the neighborhood. I was walking the other day to get my haircut. My stylist, and the owner of the shop, were... Read more

Tonight, with millions of others, I watched MTV’s 2011 Video Music Awards. I enjoyed the comments on Twitter more than I did the actual program. I came away with 6 conclusions from tonight: 1. There are so many young, insanely rich “stars” that sing, act, perform and live completely pointless lives that are driven by nothing else than getting famous, and hopefully rich at the same time, it makes me literally want to throw up. 2. If 99% of the... Read more
