This video is hilarious.<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\nI got to the following\u00a0point before burst out laughing:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cYou might be a homeschooler if you judge the length of car rides by how many episodes of Adventures in Odyssey it\u2019s going to take to get there.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nUntil this moment, I thought was just my<\/em> family. I am duly corrected! Here are some more that I could definitely relate to:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cIf you ever did two days of school in one so your family could leave on vacation.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf the first an only R rated movie you ever saw was Passion of the Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf your parents\u00a0skipped\u00a0over the parts in classic\u00a0Disney\u00a0movies where there was a classic witch.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf the first adult fiction book you ever read was Left Behind.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you\u2019re filled with fear and dread when you hear the word Saxon.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf your parents sat you down after watching the Wizard of Oz to explain to you that there is no such thing as good witches.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you read more books in a month than kids with assigned reading lists read in a year.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you weren\u2019t allowed to watch Power Rangers.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you weren\u2019t allowed to watch movies that talked about evolution.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nYup. Pretty much.<\/p>\nOh! I just found out that there are two sequels! And they are just as good!<\/em><\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Messy Mondays: You Might Be a Homeschooler If... 2\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/njsAuqL3E6Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\nHere are the ones that stuck out to me from this one:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cYou might be a homeschooler if you have pro-life bumper stickers on your fifteen passenger van.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you have very strong opinions on which Narnia vieo was supposed to be read first.\u201d<\/p>\nIf you\u2019re not allowed to date, but if that boy intends to marry you, you can court him all day.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you wish Connie and Eugene had gotten married.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cYou might be a homeschooler if you ever\u00a0received\u00a0the Timothy Award.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you ever built an entire town out of legos.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nAnd now the third video:<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Messy Mondays: You Might Be a Homeschooler If... 3\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RkGmaAKemJ8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\nMy favorites from this one were:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\u201cIf you\u2019ve ever made a movie with your siblings.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf seeing your mom without a baby bump is unusual.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you loved the first two Anne of Green Gables movies, but\u00a0seriously, what was with that third one.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you only go to the doctor if it\u2019s a life or death situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you\u2019re still mad about Connie and Mitch.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf your favorite super hero is Bible Man.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf you ever kissed dating goodbye.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIf doing the dishes is considered home economics.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\nNow to be clear, I didn\u2019t identify with every one of the things mentioned in these videos. For instance, some of the \u201cyou might be a homeschooler if . . . \u201d statements appear to assume that you had public school friends, and I didn\u2019t. We also didn\u2019t play\u00a0Nintendo\u00a0an we weren\u2019t allowed to watch Magic School Bus because the kids in it were disrespectful. But the vast majority of these things? Spot on.<\/p>\nAnd now I need to go watch these three more times.<\/p>\nAddendum: After reading a number of the comments, I think it\u2019s worth saying that about a third of the things mentioned in these videos are things that that pertain specifically to evangelicalism, about a third are things that pertain specifically to nerd and geek culture, and about a third are things that are homeschooling specific. The thing is, in the homeschooling world I grew up in, all of these different strands <\/em>came together, and perhaps that\u2019s why I found these videos so humorous.
