No one tries to silence them for \u201cgiving public schooling a bad reputation,\u201d accuses them of trying to ruin things for everyone else, or says that the problem was just their shitty family situation.<\/p>\n<p>So why is it that when individuals who were homeschooled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/witw\/articles\/2013\/04\/11\/homeschooled-kids-now-grown-blog-against-the-past.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">talk about their own negative experiences<\/a>, point out that many homeschools are failing and that certain homeschool practices leave much to be desired, and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/lovejoyfeminism\/2013\/02\/homeschool-regulations-and-childrens-rights.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"> call for improving homeschooling through implementing reforms<\/a>, people accuse them of being anti-homeschool, of<a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/XGkq2V\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> just being bitter<\/a>, of <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/10UGPb2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">being angry at their parents<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/113MRGl\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">of over-generalizing<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/YgLocl\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">calling all of homeschooling universally bad<\/a>? Why is it that people try to silence them for <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/YQrjNL\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">giving homeschooling a bad reputation<\/a>, accuse them of trying to ruin things for everyone else, and say that <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/14j17jb\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the problem was just their shitty family situation<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Why is it that it\u2019s just fine to call for reform of the public schools, hip even, but it\u2019s taboo to call for reform of homeschooling? Why is criticism of public schools widespread and expected, but criticism of homeschooling by those who were homeschooled themselves causes everyone to lose their heads?<\/p>\n<p>How is \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/Zu47R8\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">people have shitty experiences in public schools too<\/a>\u201d a sensible answer to calls for reforming homeschooling? Do we shrug and say \u201cpeople have shitty homeschool experiences too\u201d when people call for reforming and improving public schools?<\/p>\n<p>Why do people respond to calls for homeschooling reform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/lovejoyfeminism\/2013\/02\/homeschool-regulations-and-childrens-rights.html\/comment-page-1#comment-137549\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">by stating that there\u2019s nothing that can be done to curb abuse<\/a>, when no one would even think of responding to calls for public school reform in that way?<\/p>\n<p>Why is it that criticism of homeschooling by those who were homeschooled is panned off as <a href=\"http:\/\/hsislegal.com\/2013\/04\/quiverfull_movement\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">some form of adolescent rebellion<\/a> while criticism of public schools is practically trendy?<\/p>\n<p>Why is calling for reforming homeschooling portrayed as trying to \u201cruin things for everyone else\u201d while reforming public schools is seen as an effort to make things better for <em>everyone\u2019s<\/em> children?<\/p>\n<p>Why is voicing criticism of homeschooling or talking about negative homeschool experiences <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/Zu47R8\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">portrayed as being anti-homeschool<\/a> while criticizing public schools or talking about negative experiences in public schools isn\u2019t similarly portrayed as being \u201canti-public school\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>Why do people shrug and say that bad homeschooling is just <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/175YPQg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a result of shitty parents<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/thebea.st\/10Usefz\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">there\u2019s nothing to be done<\/a> while at the same time arguing that we need school reform to improve shitty schools and implementing programs to help public school kids with shitty family backgrounds?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Why is criticizing public schools and calling for public school reform seen as healthy and good while criticizing homeschooling and calling for\u00a0homeschool\u00a0reform is taboo?<\/em><\/strong> Shouldn\u2019t we want to improve and reform both, cut down on abuse and neglect in both, and ultimately work toward the best interests of children in <em>whatever educational methods<\/em> their parents have chosen for them?<\/p>\n<p>Something is very broken about how we discuss this issue.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When individuals who attended public school talks about the negative experiences they had  and call for improving the schools and reforming public education, they don&#8217;t face accusations of being anti-public school, of just being bitter, of being angry at their parents, or of over-generalizing and calling all public schools universally bad.
