From time to time, I try to post a comment I found particularly interesting, thought provoking, or meaningful. I haven\u2019t posted one in a while, but my readers leave so many insightful comments that I\u2019m going to try to be more regular about it.\u00a0Today\u2019s \u201cawesome comment award\u201d goes to Mythbri for a comment<\/a> on the post where I shared my regrets<\/a> about my teenage anti-equality activism.<\/p>\n

Mythbri<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m sorry, too, Libby Anne, because I was raised to be a bigot, too, and I know that I hurt people because of it.<\/p>\n

But you know what I am more than sorry? I am\u00a0angry.<\/strong>\u00a0I am\u00a0angry<\/strong>\u00a0that the people who made up the religion I was raised in took advantage of their position to teach me about the world in order to tell me lies about my fellow human beings. I am\u00a0angry<\/strong>\u00a0that when I repeated those lies, I got positive attention for it. I amangry<\/strong>\u00a0that because I was taught to believe those lies, when I was confronted with the truth it really shocked me. I am\u00a0angry<\/strong>\u00a0because I spent years in anguish and confusion, trying to reconcile what I\u2019d been taught to believe with what I discovered for myself to be true. I am\u00a0angry<\/strong>\u00a0because the fact that I chose the truth over lies brought judgment and scorn upon me from the same people who had been so happy to see me act like a bigot. I am\u00a0angry<\/strong>\u00a0that my change of mind is seen as\u00a0weakness<\/em>\u00a0of mind instead of strength. I am\u00a0angry<\/strong>\u00a0I was basically set up to fail in my religion and then blamed and censured for it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
