Here are a couple excerpts:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Complementarians are losing ground. And they\u2019re losing ground for several reasons:<\/p>\n<p>1.\tThey are losing ground because more and more evangelical theologians, scholars, professors, and pastors are thoughtfully debunking a complementarian interpretation of Scripture.<\/p>\n<p>2. They are losing ground because their rhetoric consistently reflects a commitment to an idealized glorification of the pre-feminist nuclear family of 1950s America rather than a commitment to \u201cbiblical manhood\u201d and \u201cbiblical womanhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>3.\tAnd they are losing ground because, at the practical \u00a0level, evangelicals are realizing that complementarianism doesn\u2019t actually promote complementary relationships, but rather hierarchal ones.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Finally, Evans points out something conservative evangelicals frequently try to hide: \u201cComplementarianism\u201d is just a new word for \u201cPatriarchy.\u201d Knowing that advocating \u201cpatriarchy\u201d won\u2019t go over well, conservative evangelicals have simply played the rhetoric card by changing the term they use.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>For those who think I mean \u201cpatriarchy\u201d as an insult rather than a description of reality, consider this:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dennyburk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/5-Strachan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\"> In the current issue of <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dennyburk.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/5-Strachan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Journal of Biblical Manhood and Womanhood<\/a>,\u00a0Owen Strachan wrote, \u201cFor millennia, followers of God have practiced what used to be called patriarchy and is now called complementarianism.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just read a very interesting article called\u00a0It\u2019s Not Complementarianism, it\u2019s Patriarchy, by Rachel Held Evans.
