Thanks to the apathy and inaction of public officials, fascists succeeded in shutting down free speech at<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the University of California at Berkeley this week.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Gay conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak at the school but had to cancel after\u00a0<\/span><\/span>angry\u00a0<\/span><\/span>masked mobs calling themselves, the \u201cantifa,\u201d (short for \u201canti-fascist,\u201d ironically) and the \u201cblack bloc\u201d descending on the event. \u00a0Milo\u00a0<\/span><\/span>was quickly ushered off campus in a bulletproof vest just as the fascists broke through security barriers, smashed shop windows, and threw fire bombs. Videos of the violent attacks circulated, including an unconscious man being beaten with large sticks<\/span><\/span>. \u00a0O<\/span><\/span>ther<\/span><\/span>\u00a0people<\/span><\/span>\u00a0were pepper sprayed, shoved, and intimidated.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The UC Berkeley landscape was left in shambles<\/span><\/span>, but\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the glow from the smoldering fires illuminated their painted message: \u201cKILL TRUMP.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Was there any condemnation for these\u00a0<\/span><\/span>criminal\u00a0<\/span><\/span>actions? Hardly. In fact, it seemed almost encouraged.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
