Over the weekend, many Americans read a hit piece by the New York Times on presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump\u2019s love life.\u00a0The article began under an eye-catching headline \u201cCrossing the Line: How Donald Trump Behaved With Women in Private<\/a>,<\/span>\u201d with this sentence: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Donald J. Trump had barely met Rowanne Brewer Lane when he asked her to change out of her clothes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The piece goes on to describe the negative experience the young\u00a0Brewer \u2014 who was a\u00a026-year-old model when she met Trump \u2014 had while dating him. \u00a0And not just her. \u00a0The New York Times went to the trouble of interviewing fifty women with whom Trump had a romantic relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u2019s only one problem. \u00a0We know for a fact that the NYT mischaracterized the\u00a0Brewer\u2019s interview. \u00a0Politico has the details<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cActually, it was very upsetting. I was not happy to read it at all,\u201d Brewer Lane said. \u201cWell, because The New York Times told us several times that they would make sure that my story that I was telling came across. They promised several times that they would do it accurately. They told me several times and my manager several times that it would not be a hit piece and that my story would come across the way that I was telling it and honestly, and it absolutely was not.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked what the reporters got wrong, Brewer Lane said they took her quotes and \u201cput a negative connotation on it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey spun it to where it appeared negative. I did not have a negative experience with Donald Trump, and I don\u2019t appreciate them making it look like that I was saying that it was a negative experience because it was not,\u201d Brewer Lane said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked to clarify if Brewer Lane knew him well and that they dated for several months.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s correct. Yes, and he was never \u2014 he never made me feel like I was being demeaned in any way. He never offended me in any way. He was very gracious. I saw him around all types of people, all types of women. He was very kind, thoughtful, generous, you know. He was a gentleman,\u201d Brewer said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

For the record, Donald Trump isn\u2019t running for \u201cBoyfriend-in-Chief.\u201d \u00a0I hate that I have to write about his romantic past at all, but I think it\u2019s important to speak out when someone is being deliberately mischaracterized.<\/p>\n

Though the fact that this article appeared in the New York Times may have been a clue.<\/p>\n
