My heart rate like soared and my Fitbit had tracked it so I later saw \u2026 that my heart rate went up to like 158 and I was terrified.\u201dShe would soon become even more scared when a young woman showed up at her backdoor; it was the burglar, who was wearing Ross\u2019s jacket, sweater and watch.\u00a0The first thing she did was take a picture of her and ask \u201cAre you going to hurt me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ross asked her if there was someone else in her home and the burglar said \u201cno.\u201d She explained she had broken in through Ross\u2019s\u00a0basement window and now come back because she forgot her phone and keys inside.<\/p>\n<p>The burglar, a 17-year-old girl, said she was sorry and the two leaned in for a hug and then Ross invited her to sit down at her kitchen table.<\/p>\n<div class=\"figure col4width floatright\">\n<p class=\"figure-caption\">A look at Leah Ross\u2019s heart rate on her Fitbit shows the spike that happened when she discovered the break-in at her home. (Submitted by Leah Ross)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>She didn\u2019t\u00a0have any food in the house so she gave the young woman\u00a0what she did have left \u2014 eggnog and gingersnaps.<\/p>\n<p>Then her doorbell rang when the pastor from across the street arrived.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018Pastor Kim the burglar is in the kitchen\u2019 and she was like \u2018what?'\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was afraid because I didn\u2019t\u00a0know that the burglar was a young woman,\u201d Pastor Kim Stoesz said about the encounter.<\/p>\n<p>But when Stoesz went into the kitchen\u00a0she realized there was more to the break-in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could see that it was just a sad situation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Winnipeg police arrived sometime shortly after which put Ross, who lives alone, at ease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey went through the house and they cleared it for me which was nice,\u201d she said adding she was still a bit worried someone else might be lurking in her home.<\/p>\n<p>A police detective asked if Ross wanted to press charges and she said \u201cno.\u201d The former lawyer said that wouldn\u2019t\u00a0be in the child\u2019s best interest and\u00a0that\u2019s what had\u00a0to prevail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe officer said in all her years \u2026 she had never walked in on a victim \u2026 serving their intruder like eggnog and gingersnaps,\u201d Ross said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Click the link above to see the rest of the story.\u00a0 The two have become friends.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYou have heard that it was said, \u2018An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.\u2019 But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil.
