Gary Cooper <\/a>(another guy whose basic decency, in response to God\u2019s grace,\u00a0led him to the realization that old-fashioned American virtue could not save him).\u00a0 I remember reading Wayne\u2019s wonderful translation of St. Thomas into his own straightforward patois: \u201cThere has to be a God or how does all this stuff work?\u201d\u00a0 Sound, solid common sense.<\/p>\nGod rest his soul and God be praised for all the happiness his gifts gave to filmgoers, particularly of my father\u2019s generation.\u00a0 It\u2019ll be interesting to see if there is a revival of Wayne films\u2013or Cooper films for that matter.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
