{"id":106536,"date":"2018-11-22T00:42:41","date_gmt":"2018-11-22T07:42:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/admin.patheos.com\/blogs\/markshea\/?p=106536"},"modified":"2018-11-19T23:44:35","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T06:44:35","slug":"some-psalms-of-thanksgiving-in-honor-of-the-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/markshea\/2018\/11\/some-psalms-of-thanksgiving-in-honor-of-the-day.html","title":{"rendered":"Some Psalms of Thanksgiving, In Honor of the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><p>Praise the LORD!<br>\nFor it is good to sing praises to our God;<br>\nfor he is gracious, and a song of praise is seemly.<br>\nThe LORD builds up Jerusalem;<br>\nhe gathers the outcasts of Israel.<br>\nHe heals the brokenhearted,<br>\nand binds up their wounds.<br>\nHe determines the number of the stars,<br>\nhe gives to all of them their names.<br>\nGreat is our LORD, and abundant in power;<br>\nhis understanding is beyond measure.<br>\nThe LORD lifts up the downtrodden,<br>\nhe casts the wicked to the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving;<br>\nmake melody to our God upon the lyre!<br>\nHe covers the heavens with clouds,<br>\nhe prepares rain for the earth,<br>\nhe makes grass grow upon the hills.<br>\nHe gives to the beasts their food,<br>\nand to the young ravens which cry.<br>\nHis delight is not in the strength of the horse,<br>\nnor his pleasure in the legs of a man;<br>\nbut the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him,<br>\nin those who hope in his steadfast love.<br>\nPraise the LORD, O Jerusalem!<br>\nPraise your God, O Zion!<br>\nFor he strengthens the bars of your gates;<br>\nhe blesses your sons within you.<br>\nHe makes peace in your borders;<br>\nhe fills you with the finest of the wheat.<br>\nHe sends forth his command to the earth;<br>\nhis word runs swiftly.<br>\nHe gives snow like wool;<br>\nhe scatters hoarfrost like ashes.<br>\nHe casts forth his ice like morsels;<br>\nwho can stand before his cold?<br>\nHe sends forth his word, and melts them;<br>\nhe makes his wind blow, and the waters flow.<br>\nHe declares his word to Jacob,<br>\nhis statutes and ordinances to Israel.<br>\nHe has not dealt thus with any other nation;<br>\nthey do not know his ordinances.<br>\nPraise the LORD!<\/p>\n<p>Praise the LORD!<br>\nPraise the LORD from the heavens, praise him in the heights!<br>\nPraise him, all his angels,<br>\npraise him, all his host!<\/p>\n<p>Praise him, sun and moon,<br>\npraise him, all you shining stars!<br>\nPraise him, you highest heavens,<br>\nand you waters above the heavens!<\/p>\n<p>Let them praise the name of the LORD!<br>\nFor he commanded and they were created.<br>\nAnd he established them for ever and ever;<br>\nhe fixed their bounds which cannot be passed.<\/p>\n<p>Praise the LORD from the earth,<br>\nyou sea monsters and all deeps,<br>\nfire and hail, snow and frost,<br>\nstormy wind fulfilling his command!<\/p>\n<p>Mountains and all hills,<br>\nfruit trees and all cedars!<br>\nBeasts and all cattle,<br>\ncreeping things and flying birds!<\/p>\n<p>Kings of the earth and all peoples,<br>\nprinces and all rulers of the earth!<br>\nYoung men and maidens together,<br>\nold men and children!<\/p>\n<p>Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted;<br>\nhis glory is above earth and heaven.<br>\nHe has raised up a horn for his people, praise for all his saints,<br>\nfor the people of Israel who are near to him. Praise the LORD!<\/p>\n<p>Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song,<br>\nhis praise in the assembly of the faithful!<br>\nLet Israel be glad in his Maker,<br>\nlet the sons of Zion rejoice in their King!<br>\nLet them praise his name with dancing,<br>\nmaking melody to him with timbrel and lyre!<br>\nFor the LORD takes pleasure in his people;<br>\nhe adorns the humble with victory.<br>\nLet the faithful exult in glory;<br>\nlet them sing for joy on their couches.<br>\nLet the high praises of God be in their throats<br>\nand two-edged swords in their hands,<br>\nto wreak vengeance on the nations<br>\nand chastisement on the peoples,<br>\nto bind their kings with chains<br>\nand their nobles with fetters of iron,<br>\nto execute on them the judgment written!<br>\nThis is glory for all his faithful ones.<br>\nPraise the LORD!<\/p>\n<p>* Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary;<br>\npraise him in his mighty firmament!<br>\nPraise him for his mighty deeds;<br>\npraise him according to his exceeding greatness!<\/p>\n<p>Praise him with trumpet sound;<br>\npraise him with lute and harp!<br>\nPraise him with timbrel and dance;<br>\npraise him with strings and pipe!<br>\nPraise him with sounding cymbals;<br>\npraise him with loud clashing cymbals!<br>\nLet everything that breathes praise the LORD!
