Note yet again the pattern. The \u201cprolife\u201d Christianist always claims<\/em>\u00a0that abortion and family values are his #1 priority.\u00a0 We cannot, they always say, be \u201cdistracted\u201d by stuff like immigration because, in the words of Catholic Vote\u2019s Eric Sammons, it will \u201cdilute\u201d the prolife \u201cbrand\u201d (telling phrase). But then the supposed focus on abortion always turns into a defense of the evil the \u201cprolife\u201d champion is supposedly urging us to ignore.\u00a0 And that is the sleight of hand.\u00a0 For in reality the unborn are human shields for his real<\/em>\u00a0#1 priority:\u00a0 passionately defending whatever sadistic cruelty, grift, or lie the GOP commands him to defend.<\/p>\nThat<\/em> is the pattern over and over and over for 35 years. That\u2019s the real<\/em>\u00a0reason conservative white Catholics sneer with contempt at the Seamless Garment and the Church\u2019s Consistent Life Ethic. It\u2019s about using<\/em>\u00a0the unborn to make war on the Church\u2019s full teaching, not about prioritizing the unborn. Because that full teaching is a deadly threat to nearly everything the GOP wants to do. If the unborn were the priority, people like Dobson and Pavone would be talking about the unborn, not instructing their followers to defend this filth or regaling us with their views on the census. It is always<\/em>\u00a0about defending the cruelty and selfishness of the cult of Trump, not about saving unborn human lives for \u201cprolife\u201d Christian-Republican Industrial Complex.<\/span><\/p>\nIf you are \u201cprolife\u201d but oppose the Consistent Life Ethic of the Church, you are not prolife.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
