My guest, Destiny Herndon-de la Rosa is one of the founders of New Wave Feminists<\/a>.\u00a0 Here\u2019s what they have to say about their work:<\/p>\n

We subscribe to something called the \u201cConsistent Life Ethic\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a belief that all human beings should be free from violence for the duration of their lifetime. That means we\u2019re anti-war, anti-death penalty, anti-torture; and we extend this philosophy to our earliest moments of existence by also being anti-abortion.<\/p>\n

We get that this last one is kind of tricky seeing as the unborn fetus is inside of someone else\u2019s body and often considered part of the woman\u2019s body itself. But science shows us that the fetus has its own body, separate DNA, a separate heart beat and brain waves, and is a totally unique genetic creation.<\/p>\n

Many would say that the fetus is actually the most vulnerable member of the human family and yet, because it is smaller, weaker, and can\u2019t tell us to stop, we\u2019ve decided it\u2019s okay to dispose of it however we see fit.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the ultimate in \u201cmight makes right\u201d thinking, which women were subjected to for most of history, and in many parts of the world still suffer under. Because men were stronger and had most of the power and resources, they were able to treat us as property.<\/p>\n

Now we are passing that same type of oppression down to our unborn children\u2026 and calling it liberation.<\/p>\n

Look, we don\u2019t work to make abortion illegal. We work to make it unthinkable and unnecessary. And we do that by getting to the root of the need for it.<\/p>\n

No woman ever wants to have an abortion. Both sides unanimously agree on that. So let\u2019s work towards a culture that supports a woman so well that she never has to have one. Let\u2019s work towards a culture that tells her \u201cYou Can,\u201d \u201cYou Are Strong Enough,\u201d and \u201cIf You Need Some Help \u2013 We Are Here,\u201d because that is what the sisterhood is all about.<\/p>\n

Our world spends a lot of time tearing down women; we want to be a part of building them up.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
