The Seattle Chesterton Society proudly announces the upcoming first event of this season, Thursday, October 20, at 7:30 PM at the UW Newman Center \u2014 an evening of discussion\u00a0concerning\u00a0\u201cThe Problem (or Problems?) of Faith and Science\u201d,\u00a0led by our guest speaker for the evening, Rev. Raphael Mary Salzillo, O.P.<\/p>\n

The UW Newman Center is located at\u00a04502 20th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105. \u00a0Please note
\nthat parking space at UW Newman Center\u00a0is limited.\u00a0 Commuters may park in the nearby N5 lot at the\u00a0University, accessible via the north gate at NE 45th and Memorial Way. \u00a0There is a $5.00 charge\u00a0for evening parking.<\/p>\n

The Problem (or Problems?) of Faith and Science<\/strong><\/p>\n

Many people believe that faith and science contradict one another or at least that they are in tension. The so-called \u201cproblem of faith and science\u201d is really a family of distinct problems that science raises (or seems to raise) in regard to faith.\u00a0 But which of these \u201cproblems\u201d are really problems for the Christian?\u00a0 Does the advent of empirical science make it less rational to be a Christian?\u00a0 This evening the Society invites\u00a0you to join us and our speaker in a lively\u00a0discussion of these questions.<\/p>\n

Fr. Raphael Mary Salzillo was raised as an Evangelical Protestant in a little town on the Oregon coast, and later\u00a0converted to the Catholic faith.\u00a0He did his undergraduate work in Applied Physics at Caltech and continued his studies in the PhD program at UC San Diego. He left the PhD program to enter the Dominican Order in the fall of 2001. After eight years of studies and formation as a Dominican friar, Fr. Raphael Mary was ordained a priest on May 30th, 2009 and sent to Seattle for his first assignment at Blessed Sacrament Church and the UW Newman Center.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
