\u201cSince I know you\u2019re all buying blu-ray movies for me for Christmas \u2014 and really, you shouldn\u2019t have! \u2014 here is a handy list of movies never to buy for me, no matter what the price, because they\u2019re on my lists of \u201cfilms that aggravate me to the point of saying things I later regret,\u201d or at least \u201cpet peeve\u201d films : DREAMCATCHER, THE LIFE OF DAVID GALE, BELLFLOWER, BRAVEHEART, THE PATRIOT, GLADIATOR, AMERICAN BEAUTY, PLEASANTVILLE, BEDTIME STORIES, FORREST GUMP. If I find these under the tree, I will not pass them on. I will DESTROY them.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Not to worry. I helpfully went to his FB page and patiently explained to him how wrong he was about FORREST GUMP and how right I am to like it. I also affirmed him in his okayness about BRAVEHEART and THE PATRIOT, which (along with GALLIPOLI) is part of Aussie Mel Gibson\u2019s ongoing love affair with the English. Had I the presence of mind to think of it, I would also have commended him for his loathing of PLEASANTVILLE. However, I was too upset and distracted, nay, distraught by his utter failure to heap unbounded contempt on HOW THE GRINCH[TM] STOLE CHRISTMAS. Words cannot express my deep, deep, deep hatred of that film. I expect I would also hate the CAT IN THE HAT, but I refused to go see it because of my intense hatred of how they ruined GRINCH. JWhat I said privately on FB I now say publicly for all the world to hear: Jeffrey Overstreet, I call upon you to join me in hating the pestilent GRINCH film. Its sole redeeming quality is that it was the occasion of one of Steven D. Greydanus\u2019 most awesome film reviews of all time<\/a>: Similarly, Judas Iscariot was the occasion of the salvation of the world. Fat lot of good it did him.<\/p>\n

Whoever the fiends are in charge of adapting Dr. Seuss to live action should be defenestrated, put in stocks and pelted with mud as a lesson to evil corporate suits with contempt for children.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
