Chesterton Society\u2019s own Dr. Andrew Tadie from Seattle University will lead us in an evening of discussion\u00a0concerning \u201cChesterton and H. G. Wells\u201d.<\/p>\n

\nUnlikely Friends: Chesterton and H. G. Wells
\n<\/strong>
\nDr. Andrew Tadie

\n<\/em>
\nH. G. Wells (War of the Worlds<\/em>) and G. K. Chesterton were literary giants during the first half of the twentieth century, and many of their works are still read widely. \u00a0These two intelligent men with such different personalities, family backgrounds, religious beliefs, and convictions about human nature, love and marriage, and the social good might reasonably be thought to be hostile to one another rather than friends.<\/p>\n

How these sharp differences affected them as authors will be illustrated by a comparison of a work of each author, both of which are set in the distant future: \u00a0Chesterton\u2019s novel, The Napoleon of Notting Hill<\/em> and Wells\u2019s screenplay for the film, Things to Come<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Then we will discuss the reasons these men were able to respect one another and even enjoy one another\u2019s company, in spite of their convictions about the meaning of life, how life should be lived, and how society should be organized.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
