Senator Paul, R-KY, recently recorded a message for the National Pro-Life Alliance (NPLA), talking about the legislation, which would declare unborn babies legal persons from the moment of conception and give them Constitutional protections.<\/p>\n
The senator says Congress can legislatively overturn the Supreme Court<\/a>\u2018s Roe v. Wade<\/em> decision by passing a \u201cpersonhood\u201d law called the Life at Conception Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n
The law would establish that human life begins at conception, and extend 14th Amendment protection to babies in the womb.<\/p>\n
Justice Harry Blackmun wrote in the 1973 ruling that if a fetus can be defined as a person, the \u201cright\u201d to abortion \u201ccollapses, for the fetus\u2019s right to life is then guaranteed specifically by the [14th] Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n
U.S. law does not currently define an unborn child as a legal person.<\/p>\n
Senator Paul, who has a medical degree, says in the message that science and biology confirm that life begins at conception.<\/p>\n
In the message, Paul slams Roe v. Wade, which he says, \u201cplayed God with innocent human life\u201d and \u201cinvented laws that condemned more than 56 million babies to painful deaths without trial.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Some of my readers may remember this lunatic\u00a0and his mad father.\u00a0 They are actually serious<\/em> about confronting the evil of abortion.\u00a0\u00a0So the GOP\u2013with a chutzpah you have to admire for sheer brass\u2013got their rank and file prolifers to *condemn* them for \u201conly\u201d wanting to overturn\u00a0Roe<\/em> and send abortion back to the states.\u00a0 You may say, \u201cBut I thought prolifers have wanted to\u00a0overturn Roe<\/em> for years?\u201d\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0\u00a0It was a standard goal\u00a0since\u00a0the late 70s.\u00a0 But when the GOP needed a way to\u00a0convince people to vote for\u00a0the duplicitous pro-abort cynic Mitt Romney, they\u00a0suddenly spread abroad the meme that what had hitherto been a feature (\u201cWants to\u00a0overturn Roe\u201d) had suddenly became a bug (\u201cOnly wants to send the matter back to the States!\u00a0 Ron Paul is pro-choice if a state keeps abortion legal!\u201d).\u00a0 It was a disgusting trick, but prolifers fell for it and wound up denouncing one of the few serious prolife voices in the GOP while damning to hell voters who would not\u00a0buy a man who supported abortion \u201cfor the health of the mother\u201d\u00a0(i.e \u201calways and for any reason\u201d).<\/p>\n
Happily, Romney is now gone and Rand Paul is still here\u2013doing the right (albeit quixotic) thing and trying to pass a Life at Conception bill.\u00a0\u00a0I doubt it has a snowflake\u2019s chance in hell.\u00a0 But it\u2019s still the right thing to do.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
