Back in the last decade, the zealots for torture in the Thing that Used to Conservatism spent *massive* amounts of time dwelling on and fantasizing about ticking time bomb scenarios.\u00a0 What they told themselves was that they were being \u201crealistic\u201d in dwelling on these thriller movie fantasies.\u00a0 What they were in fact doing was living in deep unreality in order to justify both their fears and, more especially, their irrational will to justify the sins they were attached to and striving to defend and perpetuate.<\/p>\n
Dwelling on panicky dystopian\u00a0 futures in which \u201cpatriots\u201d secede from and make war on the United States is the same sort of thing.\u00a0 It is not \u201crealism\u201d or \u201cpreparation\u201d for any having to do with reality on the ground.\u00a0 It is simply indulgence of fear with a view to enabling violence.\u00a0 It is precisely to this kind of mindset that Jesus speaks when he says, \u201cDo not worry about tomorrow.\u00a0 Tomorrow will worry about itself.\u00a0 Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now hear this: This blog will. not. be. a forum for \u201cdiscussing\u201d secession or civil war.\u00a0 I will, as Chief Tyrant of Catholic and Enjoying It, have exclusive rights for saying that those who advocate (ie. \u201cwant to discuss\u201d) this are dangerous and irresponsible and unwelcome to do so here.\u00a0 Those who choose to ignore me on this point will find themselves in the same ban file as those who want to use my comboxes to advocate for abortion.\u00a0 For both of you are urging the death of lots and lots of innocents.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s a crazy idea: How about conservative Christians try approaching our culture\u2019s problems in some way *other* than fantasizing about getting the chance to indulge in violence, torture and war?\u00a0 The Church treats these things as last resorts, but comboxers have a weird way of making them first resorts on the flimsiest fantasy scenario provocations.<\/p>\n
