Meanwhile, media in the service of the Thing that Used to be Conservatism lie through their teeth about Bush\/Cheney war crimes and long for the day when we can get back to torturing people for the greater good<\/a>. It\u2019s still a hugely popular selling point with the base just as it was five years ago<\/a>, and particularly with the Christian base, including \u201cfaithful\u201d Catholics.<\/p>\n

Indeed, \u201cfaithful\u201d Catholics love torture in greater percentages than the national average. So, we get headlines like this that ought to induce a sense of burning shame in so-called \u201cfaithful conservative Catholics\u201d\u201d:<\/p>\n

And that is just one more reason why our witness to the world is so deeply compromised and people don\u2019t take us seriously.<\/p>\n

You see, it\u2019s *expected* in the Christian tradition that the powers of this world are going to lie to and about the Church. So MSM lies about abortion and stupid attempts to blame a monster like Gosnell on prolifers are par for the course. The devil is a liar.<\/p>\n

What is *not* expected\u2013what is condemned by Jesus and railed at by the prophets and warned against by the apostles is that Christians should ever support the proposition, \u201cLet us do evil that good may come of it.\u201d We have nothing to fear from the devil\u2019s lies about the Church. We have much to fear when the devil accuses Christians of supporting torture and we have to plead \u201cguilty as charged\u201d before the Great Tribunal on That Day.<\/p>\n

Here is the Bible\u2019s solemn warning to those who embrace grave intrinsic evil for the sake of saving their skins:<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.\u201d (Matthew 10:28)<\/p>\n
